Death with Dignity

Twitter is a mysterious wasteland of smart people discussing less than topics. I recently have found myself in this weird world while trying to market the Bear Paw. I don’t understand the concept of it being fun. Who does Twitter for fun?! Is that how that’s said?  I really don’t know Twitter lingo so just try to follow me- there was this one thing, I guess a trending topic, about assisted suicide which intrigued me so I read it and I realized I was reading about assisted suicide so we gotta talk. I don’t really care, “you do you” is my thought on life and I would rather not take a stance on the issue but I care about ableism.

And I don’t know where to begin…

Every road leads to an end?

Assisted suicide scares me.  I think it’s a fine idea and I shouldn’t care what people do but research is showing me it’s a slippery slope.  Brittany Maynard was my age when she found out she had terminal brain cancer. She moved to Oregon to take advantage of their Death with Dignity law and died on her terms. During the end of her life she became an advocate for the right-to-die debate in the U.S. She was a unique face as most that partake are averaged aged 71.

Ryan’s wheelchair keeps doing this really scary thing where it just shuts off. He will be going full speed and it randomly is like, “nope, I’m tired.” He called the wheelchair guy and they won’t look at it until Ryan goes to the doctor to make sure the wheelchair is still in use. Death with Dignity will be operated by state legislation. Ryan has a permanent disability. Mine is progressive. Social Security believes we need to need to see a doctor every couple years to prove our disability still remains, which in my mind equals the State has no idea what permenant means.

I only trust cab drivers.  One needs to trust all when assisted suicide comes into play. I wanted to write about eugenics, well assisted suicide reminds of eugenics.

Eugenics: the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics. Developed largely by Francis Galton as a method of improving the human race, it fell into disfavor only after the perversion of its doctrines by the Nazis.

Eugenics, dear reader, was America’s unspoken about attempt to kill off the disabled. Public acceptance was why eugenics legislation passed. Based on how many marvelous able-bodied folks saw “Me Before You” I could literally see some pathetic shit like that happening today, especially in the southern states! Now assisted suicide and eugenics probably have absolutely zilch in common but in my mind let me tell you, they are intertwined. Plus, with the presidential candidates America has chosen I have no trust that the government is able to handle assisted suicide. Back to the facts -Brittany Maynard was this super pretty, peppy girl and the usual person who took advantage of Death with Dignity was someone with a severe disability or the elderly, USUALLY people super hurt by Ableism and the Ableist world who were done feeling like a burden.

“You do you” and “Those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter” if it’s for you fight for you, Fight for the right. Here’s hopin’ I trust America soon.
